This is just a guess but it's probably linked to not being watered for a while and extreme light deprivation. If it was mine I would give it a bit of water (assuming you will keep it at a decent temperature) and put it in a sunny place. Other guys will probably give you more well informed advice tho...

My nomination would be Echinocactus (although I have recently been informed that it's been shifted under a different genus :?: ) grusonii

Nice looking plant, good spination, easy to grow, readily available :)

Colours were a joint decision, I personally prefer more vubrant colours when it comes to most things :)
