I agree with the recommendation of the Rod & Ken Preston-Mafham book, another by Ken Preston-Mafham called "500 CACTI" is a very nice, handy sized book with big pictures of.....500 cacti, mostly in cultivation. No good for cultivation advice though, just a pics book.

Chris, this hitched a lift on seed packets you sent me at the end of Feb last year. It sounds from Dennis and Ian that several Delospermas might have been sent in, but it would be splendid if you think you could find a name in the old spreadsheets from around that time

The description of flowers etc. for macrorhizum fits, Ian.
Dennis, there might be the beginnings of a caudex??? not sure. There was a disc just above the roots that formed quite early on but it did not visibly continue to grow.
