Nearly chucked this out earlier in the year

I can be slow sometimes - this plant had gone brown and wrinkly and very poorly looking earlier in the year - looked very dry and sunburnt......

Funny that it has now perked up and looks great... and even looks like it is going to flower.

Re: spam from Bill Darbons account

They occasionally pop up from time to time - I've had them with my connection with the branch websites. The pattern is invariably the same - they want help / amazon vouchers / an unspecified favour doing. They are all false spam emails that the spamee cannot do anything about. Best just to delete th...

Re: Importing seeds from the EU to the UK

That's a lot of seeds to risk in one package PC/PP/customs not withstanding.

I'd be tempted (if it didn't make too much difference to the cost) to spread the risk over a few packages.

I used to order seeds from various places and all these new "rules" made me give up.

Re: A strange leninghausii flower

Maybe an offset will start growing from that point and somehow the flower has got there first.

Re: Poor roots on a large Aylostera

I thought about watering a lot when I switched to pumice. We can water too often, but also too much at once.

We might drink four or five cups of tea a day, but to drink four or five large mugs might be too much.

Re: Trying 100% pumice for the first time

My experience of growing in pumice - you need to make sure you've got ALL the old soil off the roots. Ideally any fine roots should go too. If I lost a plant invariably it was one that had soil and rotted roots in the pumice when I unpotted it. Pumice roots are different than John Innes roots.

Re: Moving home / greenhouse

If you are transporting trays on the back seats..... use the seatbelts. I once nearly had a pile of 150 plants, pots, soil and labels in the footwells due to having to do an emergency stop.

I didn't because of said seatbelts.

Re: Growing Cacti & Succulents in 100% Pumice

I am gradually repotting my collection of Mesembs into 100% 2-4mm Pumice as my initial trial has been successful. Do any growers using pure Pumice know if Mealy Bugs are less likely to be attracted to Pumice than when potted in JI2? I've seen far far less mealy bugs in my collection since everythin...
