Potting on hold

I was going to do some repotting this morning, but it looks like it’ll have to wait for a couple of weeks!

Tatty fenestraria rhopalophylla

My fenestraria has seen better days. Can they be propogated from cuttings?

If so, what is your preferred method? Thanks

Re: Soerensia in need of a name.

I had my ‘R129’ from Gordon Foster at Oakdene nursery back in about 1988. It was labelled ‘Soehrensia formosa v.rosarioana’ The flowers on mine have rounder petals and the plant has much longer spines. It’s fairly shallow-rooted but seems to enjoy plenty of water during the growing season. It gets r...

Re: Labels

https://www.angloscottish.net/plastic-stick-in---400-micron-19-c.asp These are superb. Last for many years and easily writable on with pencil. The SRGC used to sell them at alpine shows. The downside is the carriage costs! They do look like exactly what I’m after, but £12 p&p is prohibitive. Th...

Re: Labels

Are those the really flexible ones, almost like paper? They seem to last forever. The stiff, slightly translucent ones, that are everywhere now are hopeless and disintegrate after a few years. I have some better-quality stiff opaque white ones but I'm also down to my last few and can't find them an...

I’m running out of square pots too! The place I got these from (Eden garden supplies) seems to have ceased trading. Does anyone use these / know of a suitable alternative? The two sizes I’m after are: 7cm x 7cm x 8cm (deep) 9cm x 9cn x 9.5cm (deep) They’re expertly engineered in Germany by Goettinge...

Labels

I’m down to my last handful of labels! These are by far the best ones I’ve had and these were rescued from my Dad’s greenhouse some years ago. They’re 100mm x 16mm, made from a particularly UV-resistant plastic and are perfect for writing on with a soft 2B pencil. Does anyone please know where I can...

Re: Outdoor cactus bed

Thanks all for the advice. I like the idea of driving stakes into each corner with the back two slightly higher than the front two. I could then screw a polycarbonate sheet on to it allowing rain to run off. Methods for tackling slugs are pretty well documented. As for cactus-hungry squirrels, well ...

Re: Outdoor cactus bed

Only one incident so far - a blackbird took objection to one of the g. bruchii plants and plucked it clean out of the gravel!
