Re: Super-glue graft

my first stab at a super glue graft- l. diffusa on a t. peruvianus stock. i have been lazy this year and not performed a single graft until today. temps here are still very mild, and i wanted to experiment with late season non-seedling super glue graft. until now, i have never used any stock but per...

Re: Winter re potting

Amateur Gardening have just done a video on taking "cuttings" :!: http://www.amateurgardening.com/home/cactus-cuttings/ not sure i agree with anything they just showed. the fellow defaced a 40 y.o. plant he recently aquired, potted in wet mud, watered then put in a cool place, and he hope...

Re: Calibanus hookerii

here's mine from a seed sprouted around 1983. i recall it was so easy i gave away unpotted spare seedlings, and this one was kept. never has flowered for me. i really liked it when it was walnut-sized, with those wild tufts of leaves making it look like sputnik.

Re: How big is too big?

bluntly, habitat grown plants are uncultivated, and mother nature is a b**ch. as soon as a plant is "rescued" from habitat and put in cultivation, the true potential of that plant's genes can be expressed for all of us to see. that's what it's about. i should think you should be arguing fo...

Re: Outdoors during winter

pachanoi should take 25F minimum if completely dry, and it gets above freezing during the day. peruvianus may be more tender. as to lophs, here's some documents you can read- http://www.google.com/cse?cx=012145503597127411794%3Awjgug5sepo8&ie=UTF-8&q=freeze&sa=Search+Blog&siteurl=lop...

Re: Water Ph meters

buying a pH meter just to test a water barrel doesn't make financial sense, as a meter that would work reasonably well would cost around $150 including shipping and calibrating solutions, of which you may need 3 kinds. the pH of rain water is usually near neutral depending on what pollution may be i...

Re: Rooting (with chemicals)

this thread is already too confusing. are you applying the solution to a fresh cut uncalloused cutting, or are you applying to a cutting that was made a week earlier? jens implied a fresh cut stock, still dripping with sap. and what exactly are you putting varnish on, the fresh cut with the root gel...

Re: August frost

i wish there was a way to send you this heat: <<August stayed true to its very warm ways by going out with a sizzle. Yesterday's 97 degree high at Reagan National was the second hottest day of the month - only the 98 reading on the 5th was hotter - and helped nudge the monthly average three degrees ...
