Re: S. Mirabilis soldiers on...

I question the supposed short-livedness of this species, and wonder if it's not just a case of several factors - they're self-fertile, [for most people] easy to germinate, and adult plants get scruffy once the first flush of growth slows after a couple of years: they certainly seem tired. Perhaps fe...

Re: Lobivia albolanata R585a

The flower is always nice (my plant's is much paler) but this plant earns its keep even out of flower - and mine isn't very woolly.

Re: Echinopsis Subdenudata ailing pups...

I've noticed a similar thing with my plant. It's only ever produced one branch and this stayed very small for years but I notice that it's starting to take off.

Re: Austrocactus - secondary germination

It's annoying when you've given up on a pot of seed and reused the compost for something else, only for it to germinate very much later. I've no idea what this is.

Re: Plant ID please #3

The lower photo on this page https://www.cactuspro.com/lecture/Rausc ... 68.en.html shows just how variable this plant can be at a single locality. It's easy to understand how plants in different valleys got given different names, across hundreds of miles of Peru.

I have this FR504. As I was taking the photo I was thinking what an ugly plant it is! I'd disagree with you, Norbert, that they're all beautiful (in cultivation, at least).

Re: Id’s please

The Tunilla looks to be the plant I received from Bill Greenaway as T. chilensis (ex Machler). You'll know if it's the same plant when the flower opens as it has bits of green stigma growing out of the anthers - very odd. I've brought bits to TSG meetings in the past.

Re: Cacti records: what are the largest, smallest, fastest, slowest, long-lived, expensive etc. species?

There's an article about the cactus with the longest spines in The Cactus Explorer 27 (and one about the highest altitude cactus in no 16) http://www.cactusexplorers.org.uk/journal6.htm The International Plant Names Index can be searched for recent names in any plant family. Names published in very ...
