Re: lithops for supper

Update - no mice trapped, but many earwigs found. I always thought that earwigs were carnivorous . Is it possible they've turned veggie and developed a taste for lithops?

Re: lithops for supper

Thanks for the advice. I live in countryside and there are lots of mice etc around. My greenhouse is a cat-free zone so maybe the mice think it is a safe-haven. Time to prove them wrong. I'll put a live-trap on the shopping-list.

lithops for supper

Help please! Something is eating my lithops. All are about three years old. Some are still in their seed trays and others have been potted-on and are bigger. Many have been nibbled, some have just a stump and a bit of root left, and some have been uprooted but are still intact. There are no slime-tr...

Re: Brrrrr!

I haven't got much experience with overwintering C&S. Tonight -3C is forecast for me too, even here in coastal west Wales - so much for the maritime micro-climate! The g-house is bubble-wrapped, and there is a layer of fleece over everything. Heater is on too, so fingers crossed that all will be...

Re: garlic smokes- anyone tried them?

Some garlic cloves got left on my greenhouse staging (i'd intended to plant them out for a summer crop) & they got squashed under a large clay pot. Hey Presto! no pests on my tomato plants. Smelly greenhouse though.:duh:

Re: Lithops in variety

Thank you Iann for your help. I'll delay transplanting for a few months. At the moment I have lots (80+) of L. hookeri and pseudotruncatella and just a few of three other species + about 20 seedlings that came from a mixed species pack. Lithops are a new game for me, though I've grown spikeys for ye...

How big are they? How are they so well disguised in the growing medium?

Re: Lithops in variety

Great pictutes - what age are the plants? At what age, or size, is it usual for Lithops to start flowering? Is there much variation between species? and does it depend on cultivation methods? e.g. too much or restricted water, or feeding, or light levels, or whether plants are congested or well-spac...

Re: Advice needed for showing C&S

Thanks to all for your advice. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the show because of a spot of conflict with my other half. It was a wonderful sunny day and other half wanted the car to take the bikes further west for a ride in the hills. The show didn't get a chance. Other half has no interest in ...

Re: Bubble wrap greenhouse insulation

I've used the same bits of (big) bubble-wrap for the past 9 winters. I've always put it inside. In summer I use green shade netting also inside, to prevent scorch. Just a thought....... If the bubble-wrap is outside, doesn't it get dirty e.g with algal growth and bird-droppings etc ? The glass is ea...
