Re: Birmingham University Botanical Gardens

Great photos Stuart. I'm going to Birmingham on Wednesday - some photographic thing in the NEC. A visit to see some cacti would be much more fun. Next time maybe. How does one find out about the special open-days?

Re: Hi, I'm another newbie

Hi Outofspace - thanks for info. Time to get organised and get some flouros set up. I guess that one of the penalties for living in a brilliant part of the U.K. is the frequently complete cloud cover. Doesn't mean that I save anything on greenhouse shading though. We do (occasionally) get brilliantl...

Re: Novice collection : no rude comments please!

Sorry Iann - in reply to your question from ages ago, all the plants pictured are in a greenhouse. Its wrapped in big bubble-wrap for the winter, and heated with a small electric heater. I try to keep it 3 or 4 degrees above freezing, but had to buy a new heater last autumn cos the old one packed-up...

Re: Novice collection : no rude comments please!

Yes Len, I have to agree with you - not many Lithops, just 2 actually, but having seen how stunning these little beauties can be, I have become keen and have got some seeds on the go, and germinating. The seedlings are about 2 or 3mm high at the moment. Where do I go from here? What's the best way t...

It seems to me that over the last few years, even in summer, the quality of light has not been very good. Is this something to do ...

Greetings from Wales. Have just seen your web-site - its excellent and inspirational. Makes me want to rush out to my greenhouse and start propagating and grafting. Not possible now though - its cold and dark. Thanks for the information.

Thanks to people for id help. I'll get busy in the next few days and get some individual pics posted for more id. I've bought some mini-labels - it's pleasing to get to know what things are - must be the scientist part of me raising its head. We had blue sky and sunshine today for a few hours. Could...
