Re: Planting bare root plants/seedlings

Thank you all for your advice.

They will be in a cold (unheated) but light and frost free conservatory until spring.

Planting bare root plants/seedlings

I have received some bare root cacti seedlings (mainly 2 year old) and am unsure of their care especially at this time of year. The roots are dry. Should I just pot them up in my usual fairly open gritty mix and leave them unwatered throughout winter or should I, at some stage, give them any water b...

Re: Seed List

I tried to take Nick up on his offer but was about 10 seconds too late along with others!

Which just goes to show that the demand is there, but as Phil says, seed is in relatively short supply for this type of cacti.

Seed List

It must be about the time of year to start planning for next years seed planting season. The seed purchaser has an unenviable job of sourcing seeds and trying to second guess members wishes and I suspect his job for this year must be well under way! I think it would be naive of me to assume that an eagle eye is'nt already being kept on e-bay and other such sites. It's difficult to imagine how anyone could dispose of such plants without someone in this community seeing them. I know I could spot most of my beasties at a hundred paces and recognis...

Re: Aloe vera plant help needed please

I think what tozi is saying that whilst it is undoubtedly an aloe, aloe vera it ain't.

I am inclined to agree, but not being an expert on these things I would be hard put to say which of the four hundred and odd species it is!

I am sure someone out there will know!

Re: Last gasps 2013...............

Thanks for that Peter I am relieved to know I didnt spend 70p on a plant I already had! My confusion came from this website: http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Cactaceae/Cleistocactus_samai.html which appears to suggest that Akersia Roseiflora was a synonym for Cleistocactus / Borzicactus Samaip...
