Re: Handling opuntia

Lovely plant!
Try not to handle the plant at all!
Lay down horizontally if you want to take the plant out of the pot. Then just handle via the rootball if you can.
Good luck!

Re: One for Tony or Stuart

Yes, Ernie. Gasteria carinata var. verrucosa is a discrete sp/var - who knows, it might even become G. verrucosa again, eventually. G. thunbergii was lumped into it once but EvJ separated it again as thunbergii has two quite unique characteristics.1. the leaves incurve and can almost completely encl...

Re: One for Tony or Stuart

Yes, indeed. Nice plant, Ernie, beautifully displayed.
Re. the 'Gasteria book', page 85, second item down, thunbergii --> carinata var. verrucosa. EvJ elevated it back to species status in 2007.

Here are some in the former collection of the late Cok Grootscholten:

Re: Unusual Homalocephala

I was equally excited that one of my Oreocereus celsianus has started to produce an offset at the bottom of the body.
For completeness, I've also added the top of the plant, some 42 inches higher up.

Re: Unusual Homalocephala

Looks very smart, MIke, when you 'blow it up'.
Lots of little tubercles bursting through there. (tu)

Re: Winter growers and their requirements

The booklet arrived last night - what's the consensus around sharing scans of things like this that are hard to come by? More than happy to do it, but I don't want to break any rules. I would be more afraid of breaking the copyright laws, but am happy to help assess the severity of the offense if s...

Re: Todays photo

Hello Allan,
The last three plants are superb!
You are definitely developing a fine collection of Haworthias, showing some striking features within 5 years or so.
Well done! (tu)

Re: Uebellmannia Q

Maybe shorthand for what used to be called U. meninensis var. meninensis, now referred to as U. gummifera ssp. meninensis?
