Re: Echinocactus grusonii ?

Depends on where it has been grown, and how. I have a few, that are ten years old, but much smaller than this one (but more and longer spines). My plants get a lot of sunlight, fresh air, but hardly any water. And they are not in a peaty soil. So they stay compact and only grow real slowly. Yours is...

Re: 12 buds on Yavia cryptocarpa

The seed I purchased from ADLP ( or what ever the initials were) didn't germinate, not even one I obtained ten seeds from ADBLPS. Two germinated, one perished shortly after germination, and one is now growing. Not the best germination rate, but I was happy enough for this species. I have noticed so...

Re: Fenestraria water requirments

I'd also like to know any cultivation tips for this plant. I remember seeing a huge terracotta pan (about 18'' across) of it at the BCSS National Show last yea - so someone obviously has a gift when it comes to its cultivation. I can recommend the Ed Storms book The new growing the mesembs. An old ...

Re: Fenestraria water requirments

'Fireworth' seems to be a lot thirstier: I water them every day, sometimes twice a day (and it is not particularly hot outside nowadays). Yet, 'Fireworth' is always a little shriveled and thirsty-looking. Do you think it should be left wrinkled, or water it even more, to make sure it plumps up at l...

I wonder how long the habitat will stay untouched.
I hope this Aztekium growns on vertical cliffs, high up from the ground and far away from the top edge...

In October, I bet!

(unless they get bright autumn sunlight, turning them red again...)

Re: Cold effects

My Conophytum burgeri are starting to look like that too. But my Muiria hortenseae (or is it Gibbaeum hortenseae, nowadays, looking at the Schmoo article in the latest MSG Bulletin?) is still plump and greenish. Just a tad discoloured and a bit more yellow than previously, but still far from visual ...

Re: List of plants with tuberous roots

I need to add:
- Chorisia (Ceiba) insignis
- Grahamia palmeri (synonym of G. coahuilensis?)

Re: Spines on what plant?

5 could be a Thelocactus
6 looks like a Ferocactus
7 maybe a Copiapoa? Probably not...
8 an Eriocyce?
9 might well be an Echinocactus grusonii

List of plants with tuberous roots

I noticed I am getting more and more interested in succulent plants with tuberous roots. Maybe others up here too?And I know there are far more plants out there that produce a lot of big roots when ungrafted. I would like to try those too, and maybe try to find a plant or seeds of those plants. Woul...
