Re: Echinocactus grusonii ssp. zacatecasensis

I haven't seen the descriptions but Donati says in his Echinocactus book p32 "... these plants show a rather weaker spination, smaller flowers, much smaller seed..."
Maybe seedlings are different to msture ones though.

Re: Advice on small cooling fan

I've got two small "computer" fans and a larger 12" fan, both run by solar power. Not cheap to buy compared to a desktop fan, but no doubt will save in the long run on electricity bills. Very interesting. When you say computer fans? Are these 240V or 12V? Do they have 2 wires (as opp...

Advice on small cooling fan

HI, II have a couple of large heating fans running all the time, whether heating or not, below the bench. I was looking for something to add a bit of air movement on the bench surface. I was thinking of some computer case fans but the world has moved on in complexity since I last did this. Does anyo...

Re: Re potting query

I think it depends. If you water with alkaline tap water salts will build up and it is worth changing. I find plants left a long time tend to get yellow and get better if repotted. I think this is a mineral deficiency issue, Magnesium if often blamed. So I think it is worth changong, but frankly 1 o...

I wondered if anyone could tell me what this old favourite is called these days? Came as M. elegans.

Re: P. nellii

I my experience this species flowers over the winter, depending on light level. As a result I give this species a drink now and again over winter.

Re: Seed list

I too had heard that there was a strategy to randomise orders; so late journals didn't affect your chances. However, I started seeing people posting pictures of their BCSS seeds on FaceBook a day or so after I got my journal and sent my order in. So if there is a delay in processing it didn't really...

Re: My monadenium magnificum won't grow new leaves. Solved

They come from Tanzania. My only success has been in summer when it is very hot and they were watered copiously.
