Re: Pterocactus ID

Hello, just a few days ago I have been at the location of P. reticulatus and P. gonjianii near Paso Agua Negra in the north of San Juan, Argentina. I knew this location very good and there were no plants to see. We saw the same (no plants) in the last year at well known locations of P. fischeri and ...

Re: Pterocactus ID

Pterocacti like P. tuberosus, P. megliolii and similar only flower on new stems.
It is best to cut all old stems in autum to give all new stems in spring the power of the root.
In nature the old stems die too.

Re: Pterocactus ID

Hallo Mike,

looks like P. fischeri/valentinii.
It is not possible to see differences in young plants - and your plant is young.
P. tuberosus should not have hairy areoles.

We would like to show you three pictures of one month old austrocactus seedlings: Austro_bertinii_SAR511.JPG Austro_coxii.JPG Austro_be...

Re: Stunning Slideshow for the lovers of South American cact

Hallo, sorry for my bad english and sorry for the late answer. We have a lot of austrocacti (mostly grown from seed) and we think it is not so difficult to cultivate these plants in Europe (we are living in Germany near Aachen and the weather conditions shoult be not better than in England). Most pl...
