Re: Agave ovatifolia
Unfortunately by the time a spike has emerged it’s too late as the plant will have effectively killed itself by consuming all of the stored energy it has produced throughout its lifetime. There is some discussion about how damage to the growing tip of a spike can cause bulbil production on species t...

A few more unknowns:
Rescued from the clearance section at the local garden centre last autumn. Any ideas?
From Tesco again. Maybe F. stainesii?

ID help please
Hi all, I currently have a few plants that need IDs. Since Crassulaceae and cacti aren’t my strongpoints, i would appreciate any help in identifying them. Thanks in advance. 0703781B-C5D4-49D6-8059-F08C22946FD4.jpeg A nice big Echeveria that I’ve had for a few years now. Possibly chihuahuaensis? E3F...

Re: Not so hardy Agave
I was surprised to find that the main species showing damage for me is A. americana, which is theoretically hardy to -9 depending on the clone. Species that should less cold tolerant like titanota, oteroi, potatorum and somehow even isthmensis are fine so far. The lowest it got in my garden was -4 a...

Re: Agave talk & pictures
Lovely plants, especially the titanota. I bet they will be absolutely stunning as they get bigger and the marginal teeth develop so you can see the contrast between the teeth and variegation even more. On another note, the pictures you posted of your ‘Snaggle Tooth’ (absolutely beautiful plant by th...

Re: Agave talk & pictures
I’d like to get hold of any of the variegated VR cultivars really, especially ‘White Rhino’ and (if I won the lottery  ) ‘Big Daddy’. I’ll have to wait until spring though as I don’t have any indoor space at the moment. I wouldn’t want spend all that money to leave them fending for themselves...

Re: Agave talk & pictures
I can’t work out what I’m doing wrong with them since my regular VRs get exactly the same treatment and have never complained. Its possibly just a case of smaller sized plants (can’t get one for a reasonable price otherwise) not managing to get sufficiently established before winter. I’ll try some a...

Re: Agave talk & pictures
Great plants and nice variety in the variegation. I’m kind of jealous as all of my attempts with variegated VRs have been unmitigated failures…
