Re: Sterilisation of compost?

I use hydrogen peroxide to sterilise soil It's a tried and tested method, lots of info on the internet, for example: https://growyouryard.com/how-to-sterilize-soil-with-hydrogen-peroxide/ Whoever wrote that, doesn't know much - not even the difference between an atom and a molecule. The amounts in ...

Re: Turbinicarpus vs Pelycyphora

In which case perhaps Turbinicarpus pulcherrimus has been incorrectly labeled? Perhaps someone could offer an alternative (correct) identity

Turbinicarpus vs Pelycyphora

This Turbinicarpus pulcherrimus hasn't produced the dark pink flowers its name suggests

But this Pelycyphora certainly has

Re: Gazelle sg insecticide

Just get the licence. It takes 1 day, it's not hard, in fact I found it fun.

There are so many benefits of being able to use proper pesticides rather than the rubbish you get in the garden centres.

Time lapse

I love watching time lapse video of plants and this is a particularly good one if only for the variety on display, but if you're bored fast-forward to end and there's a Hylocereus from (dragon fruit) seed. Especially interesting is the germination method, I've not seen that done for cacti before. ht...

Re: Magnesium deficiency?

As per Pattock's post Add your chosen fertiliser to your water. The ferts should have a broad range of nutrients Mix well and check the pH with a pH meter Adjust to 6.5 - 7.0 using white vinegar, citric acid or weak sulphuric acid If using a pure mineral compost mix you might want to add some expand...

Re: Magnesium deficiency?

It could be a number of things

First thing to check is the pH of the water

My guess is that you have a high pH ie 7.5 or more, which means you're locking out Zn, Mn and Fe

Have a quick look at this

Re: ChemPak Trace Elements

Adding trace elements, or any fertiliser for that matter, can cause more problems than it solves. Too much fertiliser leads to a high level of salts in the soil which will damage roots. Also too much of one nutrient can cause problems with uptake of other nutrients. So I'm curious why you think ther...

Re: Mealy bugs in winter

It comes in bags of 7L or 14L. There have been global supply issues and I haven't seen the fine grade for sale for a while. Prices have increased accordingly - I paid £12.95 for 14L of fine and £11.95 for 14L of medium, I'm sure it is more expensive now. It is very good quality, and I have no assoc...
