Re: Latest rescue mission

Those who would like to know more about current understanding of how plants tick might be interested in "What a Plant Knows" by Daniel Chamovitz. He is a plant scientist, and the book is written in a style the non scientist will find easy to understand. Chapters cover seeing, smelling, fee...

Re: Moving a plant collection - company sought

Have you tried asking any local growing nurseries, Ralph? If you're moving outside of their selling season they might be interested in some income from such a task. Or be able to suggest any commercial companies used by the trade to move plants.

Re: Hampton Court: Aeonium National Collection Missing

On their web site http://www.surrealsucculents.co.uk/about.php they say:

"We have a large collection of Aeoniums for which we have applied for National Collection status, which includes species, imports and new Surreal hybrids. "

Hmmm!

Yours is the print on demand softcover edition, Harry, which was authorised after the original book went out of print, and from memory - I have only seen this version once - the colour photos of the original edition are completely omitted and not even present in black and white. Re: Book recommendation

Relatively little has been written in books about plant hunting, but quite a lot more in journals so would need a bit of finding. Lau wrote about his trips in our journal a great many years ago and Cole more recently in the Mesemb Study Group journal but no doubt there are many more.

I'm sure I can remember film of the pre genetically modified species growing in Italy a while ago? Or have you been chewing some of your plants whi...

Re: Forum appearance

Thanks for wrestling with this for us, Bill. On Sunday evening I couldn't get on - a message said there were too many users with reference to the SQL. There use to be an icon to the left of the thread title - where the right arrow is now - which showed red if there were postings which I hadn't read,...

Re: ladies versus Men Solved

Oh Rene! I know you like to be controversial, but I think you have perhaps misjudged this topic and might alienate some of those who you would like to encourage! From someone who for a great many years has done his share of the cooking, cleaning, shopping,(ok not knitting),sewing and ironing and all t...
