Re: Echinopsis ernestrii flower
Have another look at you plant's label. The ernestrii is probably a badly written eyriesii. It won't set seed without a mate.

Re: Do EU Botanic Gardens ostracise Collectors?
I think it would be great if one or some of the Botanical Gardens in Europe could organise a scheme similar to the ISI scheme. I just wonder if you could sanction the extra jobsworths that might be needed to organise this and propagate all the plants. Seriously, I would challenge the idea that becau...

Re: Rebutia Flavistyla
Just goes to show how ultra careful you need to be when setting your own seed not to let the bees have a helping hand at the same time. Bring the plants indoors before they open the flowers. Means you might enjoy them more too.

Re: thiamethoxam
I started a thread on this a while ago: http://www.bcss.org.uk/forum/read.php?1,85739 although I spelled it thiametoxam which is why your search didn't hit it. If you plug these into google you get 45000 hits for your spelling and 3000 for mine, so I'll assume yours is correct!

Re: "grey" water
Plants have their roots submerged for, I would think, at most a few minutes when they're watered, depending on how free draining your soil is. For the rest of the time they should be in good contact with the air. Exchanging gases with the air must be much easier.

Re: a pot full of sunlight
Well, that's what you get when you grow Lobivias. Mine was about a week ahead of yours, but could only manage one flower. Mine's WR 219:

Re: alive or not???
To minimise the size of the cut area (and reduce the chances of it drying out), you might be better scooping out the dead stuff rather than cutting flat across. Wet cat litter can be made into mounds that you can plonk your cutting onto.

Re: Gibbosum
Dave I'm glad you've been prompted to look hard enough to find that list and, yes, it's annoying that the BCSS seed has (probably) a dodgy field number. Regarding the 'form' I didn't mean to imply that it meant anything to do with that collector, rather that it's so unusual to find a collector so te...
