Re: Notocactus availability in UK

Thankyou Habanerocat, that's very interesting. I will ask if they are likely to have any in.

Does anybody here have any of these notocactus leninhausii f.cristatus themselves or know where I could get one from?

Best Wishes,

Can anybody tell me if this particular shape of notocactus is rare or readily obtainable in the UK?

Re: Latest rescue mission

I certainly understand this is something that has been going on for a while and will continue to. As Sylv says, if people keep buying them (and it does unfortunately sell them, though I dread to think what fate the poor creatures endure after Yuletide is over), then it will continue. I do think it i...

Latest rescue mission

Hi~ Earlier this week, I went into my local Tescos and on the cut price plant trolley, was appalled to find a few cacti that had been made up to look like Santa Claus faces. Clearly, some of the bits had been hot-glued on and of course, I simply had to rescue them from such hideous cruelty. When I g...

Re: Autumn/Winter watering and potting on

Yes, I do have an unheated room- the whole flat most of the time actually  as I am out most days and only have heating on a little in the evenings before bed but not overnight! The kitchen doesn't really get hot either as I don't do any major cooking in it- no time! I do have one room I never h...

Re: Autumn/Winter watering and potting on

Thanks everyone and much appreciated. They actually haven't been watered for about a month now so are dry. If it was summer, I would have given them some water at this point. As to location, they are currently on my kitchen windowsill, where they get a burst of any sunshine in the late afternoon. I ...

Autumn/Winter watering and potting on

Hi Folks  I was wondering whether now is the time to stop watering my cacti for the upcoming winter- or should I give them one or two more waterings? Also, a couple I have were never potted on and are now dry. Would it be safe to pot them on now or should I wait until spring to do this? Best W...

Re: Cacti Rescue advice for newbie

Hey Rod and Keith~ You were both so right! Wonderful: I do indeed have three plants, which is just amazing. So they are all now separated and looking forward to their new pots with superior substrate to sit in! I will post photos in due course. I wonder: does this mean they were three plants potted ...

Re: Cacti Rescue advice for newbie

Hi Rodsmith~

Thankyou so much. That's very encouraging and I hope I did the right thing by cutting the top off that mushy one! I felt awful doing it!

I will get right to it... and yes: it is very exciting!

Best Wishes,
