Re: Echinocactus horizonthalonius
Tina you will have to be patient, as Diane advised me on this forum a couple of years ago. I bought the plant as a grafted seedling when my daughter was about 3. There is now nothing left of the stock apart from roots and my daughter will be 15 in September! I have some nice little seedlings...

Echinocactus horizonthalonius
This seedling which I have ad for a fair few years finally obliged by flowering for the first time on several occasion last year, but every time I missed the flower opening. Not so this year, encouraged to open by the very hot humid weather here today http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh319/alanbry...

Re: Austrocylindropuntia pachypus
Mine seem to grow almost all year apart from late spring early summer (i.e this time of year) when they just tick over, producing a few spines but no new leaves. I have noticed that freshly rooted cuttings seem to start into growth when they are well rooted though.

Re: Western flower thrip
Apparently (I read it on the net somewhere...) WFT are most strongly attracted to sticky traps in flourescent pink!
I've never seen pink sticky traps, so I guess you would have to make your own...

Re: Tap water for lime-loving plants?
If you use JI compost for your lime lovers that wil have enough lime in it, so you can still use rainwater.

Re: Western flower thrip

Currently Opuntioids and Astrophytum caput-medusae seem to be the favourites, plus a couple of shrubby mesembs :ev...
