Re: Sempervivum
They look like common semps. We buy them for £1.25 for a decent sized pot from our local nursery. The birds dig our red ones up but last year I gave a bucket full away, they grow so quickly.

Re: Diatomacous Earth
To get rid of scarid flies I give a quick spray of household fly spray. Repeat every few days or when you seen new flies hatch. I haven't used DE on my plants, I use it on my chickens though. You can get little puffer bottles to apply DE.

Re: A recent purchase has got me thinking
Mine have never rotted off Wayne and I have been using this mix for well over a decade. I do sometimes forget and give the succulents a water with the hose when I do the other pots. I have agave, echiveria and aloe outside in pots.

Re: Greenhouse flowers
Wow! I have never been bothered about flowers on cacti although the cacti I kept as a child did flower. These lovely blooms are changing my mind and making me a tad envious.

Re: is this cannibalism
I have seen the farms around our village harvesting sugar beet. I live on the southern border of South Yorkshire. I've seen them dropped by the roadside when they have been overloaded and not covered. I have never been tempted to try agave syrup or aloe drinks either. Care to share what they are like?

Re: is this cannibalism
I retract my humorous comment - in disgust! it'll be bracing if nothing else! Sorry about shooting that fox !!! :ban: I was going to try a humorous comment about "have they run out of good British beet ",,, until I discovered (Wiki again) that beet is a Mediterranean import :duh: it is ch...
