Re: Growing Cacti & Succulents in 100% Pumice
I am gradually repotting my collection of Mesembs into 100% 2-4mm Pumice as my initial trial has been successful. Do any growers using pure Pumice know if Mealy Bugs are less likely to be attracted to Pumice than when potted in JI2? I've seen far far less mealy bugs in my collection since everythin...

Re: Pest control
And as for that Diatomaceous Earth.... I've conducted tests with that also. Get one on the move on a table top. Surround it with Diatomaceous Earth. All it does is bury it's hear under a lump. Come out the next morning and it's gone. Where to God only knows. So I stopped those tests. The tell tale ...

Re: The Seed Pool - CLOSED
Out on my bin round today I spotted a car number plate - as I often do - with letters on it that made me "notice it". The last three letters were FSP and I immediatly thought of all the Forum Seed Pool seeds I had sown/grown and passed on to others. [FSP was used on my printed labels! :gri...

Re: The Seed Pool - CLOSED
I suggested the idea of them going to the BCSS list, maybe as freebies. They would be a good source of seed for people to try out seed sowing - the whole point of the seed pool, afterall. Given the difficulty we may face in purchasing seed going forward we need to preserve and distribute what ever w...

Re: Change of scenery
I drain my trays sometimes using a wet paper towel or a wet jay cloth drapped down into the bottom and then over the top and down lower on the outside. It wicks out via capilary action.

Re: Solar Powered Fans
It is wiring it all together that is confusing me..... :???: :???: The controller should come with a wiring diagram, Usually there are separate terminals on the controller for the panel, battery, and load, which should be connected up in a specific order, like this one: for example https://www.alie...

Re: Solar Powered Fans
The panel produces up to 18V under load; the fans are rated at 12v. By running them at a higher voltage, they may rotate faster than designed (and consume more power, assuming the panel can supply ir), reducing the life of the bearings and otherwise be a bad idea as they may not be able to readily ...
