Re: Spiny quiz
OK, so an Echinomastus then. Who knows what name you have on your label! "erectocentrus"? "dasyacanthus"? "intertextus"? Or maybe a different genus? Sclerocactus? Pediocactus?

Re: What's happening in my Lithops caf?...
Not leaves, not normal ones anyway. So probably an attempt at a flower, but appears to be a deformed one

Re: A very willing Mammillaria
Interesting. I'd dismissed M. mathildae because of the description of 9-11 hairlike radials, but some plants seem to show more needlelike radials and more of them just like my plant. Both the radials and centrals are pubescent (need a good lens!) which is something quite unusual so far as I can tell...

Re: Advice on greenhouse heating
Its been down to 9C here, but no lower at least inside the greenhouse. What has been unusual, at least by recent standards, is no very warm nights at all this summer. All my plants are happy enough down to 5C or maybe a little less between warm days. Even the Madagascan Euphorbia is forced to sit th...

Re: Slightly odd Conophytum
How much do I love my Conophytums? Apparently a little too much, they got to spend the whole night getting rained on. So they'll either break out or die now

Re: Purple-flowered Lithops, apparently...
This Conophytum and Lithops olivacea look superficially similar with a greenish open window. The flower and capsule would be an obvious giveaway but the plants are also quite different even if it isn't obvious in a photograph. The Conophytum has small squidgy leaves which cluster strongly, maintain ...
