Here are a few of my hybrids that I have decided to keep and grow on. They are all from the same seed batch and have been treated the same. Quite a Mixed bag.

A wooden cocktail stick or kebab stick.
Leave it in the soil for a few hours, if it looks damp when it comes out then there's probably enough moisture in there.

Most of my agaves in big pots still have weeds and foxglove seedlings growing in them so there’s enough moisture still in there for now. I think the other reason for not giving them too much, I don’t want them growing under low light conditions.

For smaller agave that are showing signs of drying out too much, i.e leaves shrinking a little with wrinkles, I might bring them indoors and water them otherwise I'll wait until mid March or sustained day time temps over 15C. I admit to being tempted over the last week but today the GH temp is maxin...

The set up I have was the bare minimum to keep agave seedlings going throughout winter and to supplement existing daylight. They are just Red/Blue LED strip lights. There is 2.2m total length and power consumption is measured at about 28W. If you were growing mature plants under these you might need...

Some lengths of plastic overflow pipe, aluminium angle and some hanging basket chain. The LED's can be had from various sources and cut to length.
I just use these to extend the day length this time of year.
