It would be cheap and easy to apply a couple of coats of an acrylic based roof treatment. Readily available from Wickes, B & Q and the like, these coatings are fast drying and very durable. The rainwater would be perfectly usuable and you wouldn't have coughing cacti.

In my very long experience, the best manufacturer is Solufeed. They are manufacturers of commercial feeds. They also supply in retail size packs. My plants made excellent progress with intermittent feeds of their balanced, and their high potassium feeds. Highly recommended - and UK manufactured. www...

Personally, I prefer pink to grey, but that's my feminine side coming out.

Plants, being living things, die. I used to get upset when I lost a plant, but now I just shrug my shoulders and move on. It's a good thing to get rid of an old and diseased, or of course, a dead plant. It releases space for a replacement. After a lifetime of growing plants I've got to be rather har...

Good idea Paul, and certainly worth a try. Shropshire's a cold county (albeit lovely) but I should be able to find a suitable sheltered spot.

Deformed, disease ridden, various bugs in various nooks and crannies and half forgotten in the spare greenhouse that serves as the place where such plants go before they get chucked out. Death row!
