Re: I've repotted an Echinopsis
Don't know the variety any more, I'm afraid. Label composted itself (remember the old wooden labels?). Flowers mainly white with a yellowy tinge, so I don't think that it's a spiny version of Oxygona.

Re: I followed advice
Here are two Coptogonus, picture taken 5 mins ago. One is starting to flower, the other probably tomorrow if it remains sunny.
These are small plants, about 4cms excluding spines.

Re: I've repotted an Echinopsis
Maria - should have some pics soon and will post them. In years past it's been smothered in flowers.

I've repotted an Echinopsis
This plant is about 30 years old and it takes two to lift it. Repotting was quite a painful enterprise - but after 40 years of married life I know the real meaning of pain! If it - and me, are still around in 20 years or so I might think about repotting it again (but probably not!). [attachment 3028...

Julie: What do you mean - 'it only has to be done once'.
I'll give it a month, then Maria will have filled it and greenhouse no2 will be on the horizon!

Re: Limestone and Gypsum --- Good, Bad or Ugly?
I find that Westland J.I. 2 or 3 with 50% grit is fine for my cacti and succulents (albeit the latter are few and getting fewer!). I don't like the Gem product at all as it seems to be less accurate in consistency.

Re: My Easter egg! ;)
Hi Stephen. I don't know what the ratio is. To be very blunt, I use it (alternatively with Phostrogen) and splash it all over using one of their spray guns on a hose. The purists will wince, but with thousands of plants and getting older by the day, I'm not going to waste time with special watering ...

Re: My Easter egg! ;)
Could be F. Electracanthus - I have a somewhat similar plant. Very slow growing.
John Pilbeam places this under F.Histrix.

Re: water butt pump
Hi David. I started with empty water butts and didn't encounter a problem.
I do though, query the need for the outlet filter and would have few qualms in discarding it.
