Re: Weingartia (Sulcorebutia) breviflora L314 flower colour
The problem is always the source and whether you have collected plants or seed material direct from habitat. Or are the seed and plants under those numbers second or third generation obtained from nurserymen? If so you can never be sure enough precautions have been taken to prevent open pollination ...

Re: Weingartia (Sulcorebutia) breviflora L314 flower colour
Hi Paul, Sounds like a case of dominant and recessive genes regarding flower colour. I don't know the flower colour variation in the S. breviflora population, but as a matter of interest this was originally an offset years ago from a genuine Cardenas specimen and its very shy offsetting. It was give...

Re: E pentalophus
Yes some of the largest Echinocereus flowers (4 inches to 5 inches diameter if I remember correctly) on fairly thin stems. I once had it in the middle bed in the greenhouse and it spread. A poor picture as it was just a quick snatched record shot at the time as since it was bedded in I could not mov...

Re: Is the forum dying?
I looked up Photoshop Express for the differences to see if the all the editing is done using your devices memory or using their computers on the Cloud but was not successful? As far as I am aware todays cameras or smartphones would not have enough resources to install and use Photoshop or even the ...

Re: Is the forum dying?
I'm not a frequent smartphone user, but maybe Mike could describe his method? Janine raises the reason people Post Process on computers. Conventional cameras, let alone much more compact smartphones, don't have the same memory capacity to include the same advanced Post Procesing programs as a comput...

Re: It’s Sulcorebutia time!
Mine came as S. tarabucoensis ssp. lindae but how distinct it is I do not know since there evidently are others such as S. hoffmanniana with similar dual coloured flowers. Therefore it may be a synonym for something previously discovered? Body spination seems variable too? https://www.bing.com/image...

Re: It’s Sulcorebutia time!
Nice plants Diane. I bought a some a few years ago from one of Nick Gash's offerings on this Forum. They apparently flower best if given a cool winter rest. I remember Brian Fearn in a talk years ago saying after a trip to a warm part of India those there said their Sulco's grew fast but hardly ever...

Re: S. Mirabilis soldiers on...
Maybe not a long lived plant, but certainly not a flower once and die plant. As Ralph says they set fertile seed without needing to be cross pollinated. You need to keep setting a few seeds periodically to ensure you have replacements coming along since not all cacti "live forever", some r...
