Re: Pictures of Gordon Rowley

Hi Pete, I have some of Gordon judging a Sussex Zone Show at Littlehampton in the very early 70s, with Keith Mortimer, David Hunt and Brian Lamb. These came to me from Terry Hewitt's widow and have been scanned in by Roland Tebbenham, I will try to email the scans to you, but if I fail then please c...

Re: Old Bradleya online

HI All, Bradleyas 1-7 are completely sold out and of 8 & 9 there are not that many in stock, so the B.o.T. has taken the decision to accept the offer of cactuspro to make these issues available electronically and as you say this may encourage more sales of those issues which are in stock. Regard...

Re: Mesemb Study Group Bulletin 25/4 2010

Hi All, Sorry for the delay in the Bulletin, it is being printed now and I hope that it will be mailed at the beginning of next week. I know that you are all anxious for your seed list, it is a good one, and has a strong bias towards Conos and Lithops. I know that Terry & Jennifer are anxious to...

Re: Drawings found !

HI Lithos I have been following this thread from the beginning and initially I was not certain who you were but after a while it became very clear that you were the young artist who helped us to make the Mesemb Study Group Bulletins much more interesting in the early days. I believe that I still hav...

Re: Some kind of Cleistocactus?

28.1.2011 Hi All, As you have observed there are some extra bristles/spines from the flowering area which is indicative of Cephalocleistocactus. This plant may well be C.ritteri . The fact that it has a red flower should not detract from that possibility. We had some seedling plants of this grown fr...

Re: Some kind of Cleistocactus?

Your Cleistocactus looks rather like C.vulpis-caudae, but a pic without the shadow across it. It should be quite soft to the touch, strokeable like a cats tail?

Re: Special offer from Lidl

HI All, I think this plant should be banned from sale in this way. I had a call from a lady a couple of years ago, whose son had touched one of these Opuntias, and soon afterwards had rubbed his eye and the glochids had entered his eye resulting in a trip to the doctor's surgery and hospital. She wa...

Re: Lanzarote / Fuertaventura

Hi Ben, The best thing you could do is get hold of a copy of Joel Lode's new book on the Canary Islands (ISBN: 978-84-92648-36-8) - Plantas Succulentas de Las Ilas Canarias. It is in four languages - English, Spanish, German and French. It tells you where the plants can be found, more or less, and g...

Re: December journal and seedlist

4.1.2011 Hi All, The dam has burst, the Post Office could contain our journals no longer and had to spit them out and deliver to us this morning, at least they both came together. One more day and I could have given Tony his as a birthday present! I commented to the postie that they had finally arri...

Re: Calibanus hookerii

Hi Eric, Happy New Year. I would be wary of cutting the leaves off the Calibanus unless they are dead. The plant must photosynthesise through its leaves as the plant body is purely the storage vessel. If the leaves are impinging on your other plants and taking up too much space, you could elevate th...
