Re: Cactus and succulent display at JHS Flower Show

That's a great display, and good to see. I like the round display table, it makes it easy for people to see all the plants as none are too far away.
Did you give a presentation about cacti and succulents?

Re: Germination failures - any advice?

I note that you use sterilised compost and wondered about the compost itself. Is it your usual compost and did you do anything different with it?. It is unusual to have many seed "no shows" like this, compost and seeds are the main concern here, I wonder if it is worth looking at compost r...

Re: Crassula flowering time

Hello Brian,
The first picture of Crassula streyi looks as if it would look good in a bonsai pot, I'm envious of the flowers, mine only have small buds at the moment.

Re: First or Last cactus flower?

I visit the greenhouse most days except when the weather is too bad to get up the garden. At this time of year I just potter about and find the time goes by very quickly, if I am lucky Chris will bring me a mug of tea.

Re: Cacti- stamp

Thank you for the picture Tony, the stamps are all very eye catching.

I seem to remember hearing that the E.harmsii stamp picture was from a photo taken of a plant owned by someone living locally, not anyone in our branch though.

Re: Cacti- stamp

Tony, thank you for the information, I have a postcard of the stamp, but I can't find it at the moment. Were there any other denominations of the stamp?

I am thinking that I might want to grow and flower E.harmsii again!

Best wishes for 2015,

Re: Any suggestions?

Hello Peter, that is quite a lot of tissue eaten overnight on one plant. It suggests to me something bigger than a mouse, unless it was a very hungry mouse!. Although mice are known to be very partial to seed pods, - I have a friend who had his Lithops seed pods decimated by mice one winter. He used...

Re: Cacti- stemp

Hi Stuart, I remember a stamp with an Echeveria harmsii perhaps about 25 years ago,- time flies!

It was a close up of the flower if remember rightly and very striking.

Echcveria harmsii used to be popular but is not seen so much these days.

Best wishes for 2015,

Dot.

Re: Some holiday flowers

Yes I agree Liz, roll on March and the Northern Weekend! I will be in touch soon about badges. Sheffield quite often gets a lot of snow, and because it is very hilly, driving becomes rather interesting at times! It once took me 4 hours to get home from work driving across Sheffield in the snow. All ...
