Re: To shade or not to shade.....

Also in habitat, shade may be provided for some of the day, day lengths nearer the equator are shorter than our long summer days and you always get a breeze

Re: To shade or not to shade.....

The sun through glass concentrates the effect of the infra red and removes some of the uv. Uv would naturally stimulate the protective mechanisms. The heat is what does the damage. That’s why moving air is so important. Air us rarely still in the great outdoors.

Re: Crassula sarcocaulis - or not

I have grown the garden variety of C sarcocaulis and it had brown woody stems which were definitely not succulent, and pink flowers. It didn't look like your photograph.

Can anyone recommend a key for Pachyphytum identification either in a book or on line, please?

Re: Epiphyllum question

It depends how cold it is whether they stay out all winter. I do give them a dry rest over winter, if it goes below 5C in the greenhouse they go in a sunny spare room window, unheated, about 10-15 C. I will try tomato feed later in the year as you suggest. When do you stop/start, please, Carl?

Epiphyllum question

I have three Epiphyllum hybrids, all from Tony R at the last BCSS General Show in 2012, and they are all roughly the same size. They are kept in identical conditions, watered and fed the same, but only Cornish Cream has ever flowered. Can anyone suggest why?

The older (1838) name is G. Monvillei and so has precedence. (Information from G. Charles' excellent book.)
Thank you for the clarification
