Re: Rebutia einsteinii
Great plants, Ross! That MN171a is terrific. I have one of them from seed too, though unfortunately only the one. It's a very nice form for sure.

Re: Next winter considerations
No, sorry if I was unclear. I've always brought them inside. Though l might try to keep some of my Pseudolithos in the greenhouse next winter just to see. I doubt they'll survive, but who knows.Herts Mike wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 7:08 pm Karl, are you saying you’ve grown Stapeliads at 5c with no problem?

Re: Next winter considerations
I assume this was aimed at me? Why? Did you start the thread? Weird logic... That said, I very strongly suspect that the Netamo has a hysteresis larger than a very large thing. Why are you always so abrasive? I had just made a comment, then you made a comment shortly afterwords with info and questi...

Re: Next winter considerations
How do you heat your current greenhouse, how big is it, and what do you use to control the temperature? Bottom line - the nearer, more precisely, that you control to any temperature, the cheaper it will be - every moment spent a fraction of a degree above what you need as a minimum, is money wasted...

Re: Next winter considerations
This was definitely an issue for me this winter in my new glass house. With electricity prices at an all time high in Norway, it didn't feel sustainable to keep the temperature at minimum 5°C as I'd done in previous years. But I figured if the plants could take 5°C, they should be able to take 0°C, ...

Re: Sterilisation of compost?
I had to do a double take there. For some reason I'd never really thought of coir as compost. Being absolutely accurate - coir isn't compost. It is an uncomposted organic growing medium - the same as bark chips and similar used as peat-alternatives. Coir does compost/decompose, actually reasonably ...

Re: Sterilisation of compost?
I don't sterilize my soil. But then I don't use compost, sterilized or otherwise. For seed raising I use about on third coco coir, and about two thirds moler/grit/pumice/lava or whatever else I have. I don't do bags either. Standard propagator for me. I find it's just too much hassle with sterilisa...

Re: Sterilisation of compost?
I would suggest that in the great bulk of cases, trying to grow Aztekium, Blossfeldia, Strombocactus, quite a few choice mesembs, and the like, in unsterlised composts, would be more than a challenge. No truer words. I bought some Geohintonia mexicana seeds last year and I'm not sure if it was dust...
