Non-sphaeroid mesemb water requirments
Hi mesemb-lovers. How much do you water your non-sphaeroid mesembs, such as Hereroa, Hallianthus, etc.? I find that they need a lot more water than Lithops do. I watered them about every 7-10 days, and they looked pretty sad: not growing, always fried up. I started to water them about every other da...

The schematic for the PAR sensor is here. http://www.aridhouse.plus.com/schematics/par_sensor_schematic.html and a picture here http://www.aridhouse.plus.com/logger_files/parsensor.jpg I then calibrate it against a commercial PAR sensor (Licor 193SA) The correction for spectral response may not be ...

Re: Diplosoma retroversum
Hello all, Here is a quick update about my Diplosoma retroversum seedlings from the MSG (181 days old, in a 5 cm pot). It seems that they are not really ready for their rest period at the moment, their leaves are still turgid and show no signs of drying. So I carry on watering them but I remain att...

Re: Optimal and Maximum Temperature for Cacti and Succulents?
Here's the data for May. File 2017-052327 is just zoomed in a bit. On the bottom power chart there is shading when the fan controller sends a signal back to the data acquisition box and there is a slight blip on the power trace. On the temperature trace for 'inside' at the point where the fan comes...

Re: A kind of mite I've never seen before Solved
I have them in all my mesemb pots even though there is very little organic matter. Interestingly, they are completely resistant to miticides, as I learned when I sprayed for other mites. Nothing kills them.

Re: High light levels but low temperature in the winter?
1. In summer when the sun is strong, shade and ventilate well. I put most of my plants under the bench, from mid April onwards where they will receive very little direct sunlight. Too much sun is definitely a problem, but having plants in the shade in the summer does not seem to work for me, I am n...

Re: High light levels but low temperature in the winter?
Things start up again for me in Jan/feb. I am in Ottawa, where things begin to lit up more like in April :) As far as your conos go your short day length is not your biggest problem. Your biggest problem is excessive indoor heat! I might have put undue emphasis on light, but I completely agree, the...

Re: High light levels but low temperature in the winter?
A frost-free day in November would be pretty unusual here. And to be honest, hauling pots twice a day sounds more like a job, not a hobbyAiko wrote:Put them outside with frost free temperatures, and bring them inside for the night in an unheated room (or slightly heated if it really gets to -35C).

Re: High light levels but low temperature in the winter?
My Conos flower happily in November if given enough light, but we get zero hours of sunlight at that time of the year. Zero hours of sunlight in November? What latitude are you? I get daylight although it is usually very cloudy, so not much direct sunlight. Canada, Sir. The amount of light on...
