No, the colour is fine. The seed leaves just have a reflective surface. If you look at the new growth you will see the colour of the whole - if I had taken it from a different angle.Mike wrote:That seedling doesn't look a very healthy colour?

epicactus x Selenicereus spinulosus
I crossed this two years ago, then harvested the berry and sowed the seed last May. They came up in October. (Epicactus seedlings always seem to come up in the late autumn, but survive the winter happily without watering.) I started watering a month ago, and they are growing quite well. They look li...

Cactus ID needed
No matter how often I tell my friends not to buy me cacti as presents when they are on holiday, they always do. They are never plants that I would buy myself, and it is impossible not to keep them... Can anyone ID this?

Re: When to start watering again
I'd better preface this by saying that I live in North London, with its rather strange microclimate. Given that, it depends on the weather (and, of course, the plant!), but I usually water most cacti up until the first or second week in December. On the other hand, I usually don't start watering aga...

Re: Epiphyllum beauty
I've one a bit like it, also in flower to-day. The scent, which is quite strong, is lemon sherbet. What is yours like? The odd thing about this plant is that it attracts greenfly when the flower buds start to swell - though they only attack the flowers. I crush them all with my fingers when I first ...

Re: Very large cactus flower
Fantastic! Epiphyllum? Yes, from some mixed seed I bought years ago from Thompson and Morgan. From seed, some of them have taken a long time to flower, but it's been worth the wait. This was another of them, that flowered for the first time this year (I've still got one to go...) ASIP6081708.jpg AS...

Very large cactus flower
It is almost a foot across, and strongly scented. The year it has produced a dozen flowers.
And here's a different view (note the standard-sized bricks in the background!)

Re: Epiphyllum beauty
I've only just discovered this thread, but thought I might put on this one, which has just flowered for the first time. I grew it from seed many years ago, and, rather oddly, it didn't flower until I moved it into full sun in the hottest part of the greenhouse. Usually I think of them as prefering s...

Do they have male and female flowers? This second one isn't a patch on the first, but it has a very prominent style and stigma, which the first did not...
