Re: Rooting succulents

Thanks Rod, I also do the same, but is it the heat, lack of moisture, the substrate itself, that actually provides the trigger for the cutting to sprout roots ? or is it nature and self preservation. LoL I think ambient temperature is a big factor. In transporting my Adromischus cooperii in the car...

Re: Rooting succulents

I've successfully rooted succulent and cactus "cuttings" in Tesco cat litter given an occasional damping - occasional being once every 3 to 4 weeks.

Re: A nice Conophytum Surprise

Very rewarding, Brian. Looks like you've got an interloper on the flower in the first photo. It must be attractive (the flower, not the interloper  ).

Re: advice for newbie please !!

Hi Cactuslil Welcome to the forum. I don't know why suppliers think it is acceptable to mistreat cacti in the way you have described as you don't see other plants with false flowers or faces, etc pinned to them. From what you describe, I think it would be best to leave the damaged cactus to heal, wh...

Re: Mealy bug

I can't say I've noticed a smell from mealy bugs but my sense of smell isn't what it was. I must remember to have a sniff next time I find some. Could it be that your infestation was very bad and just the odd one here and there wouldn't smell strongly enough to detect?

Welcome to the forum, John and to the succulent fraternity. You'd better get a greenhouse sorted pretty quickly, judging by your likes.

Re: Just a few drops of water...

Well I think it's to early to keep Conos (in general) moist for probably another month. Look at the C. taylorianum ssp ernianum above. The flowers are pretty, but at least three heads have next year's leaves swelling as well. They are going to be double-bodied and confused by such early watering. B...

Re: Is this Echinops Eyriesii?

I was ready to pass this plant on, and it was a photo that Rod posted somewhere here that made me keep it. I am glad I did! Glad I persuaded you to keep it. Here is another photo I took this morning in daylight. The perfume is stronger this morning too. I've never noticed any perfume from my...

Re: Have I got the wrong label?

Buenekeri looks right, Ernie, but your Echinopsis eyriesii is definitely a Gymnocalycium; I don't know the species, though. :???:
