Plant looks cuddly but its glochids are terrible. Bacause of its glochids it is also called cow blinder.

I have taken a closer look at the first letter of the second line. It looks like a downward stroke with a dot in the middle. Looking at other letters it looks like the beginning and the end of a stroke are preserved as a dot. So the 1st letter might as well be a P or a B. E or F are less likely as t...

Many thanks Ralph. I am trying to decipher Ritter's original description in Latin and his subsequent description in German in his book, which seem to be describing two different plants. Or my translation skills are hopeless :roll: It doesn't help when he uses abbreviations of German botanical terms...

This plant is being sold as a 30 years old specimen of Neoporteria sociabilis.
Price is good, I am tempted.

M zeilmanniana was one of my first cacti that I grew as a child. I don't think mine was self-fertile. I have had many flowers but never any berries or seeds. And yes, I did pollinate the flowers.
