Re: A couple of Astros with different-coloured flowers
Very, very nice. And the bodies aren't too shabby either!

Re: A Gymnocalycium spegazzinii
I would tend to agree with Terry.
It certainly has the potential to be pretty spectacular when it achieves a good size.

Re: Rooting Sulcorebutia pups
What you are trying to achieve is moisture around the bottom to encourage roots, but not to be wet and so to encourage rotting.

Re: Rooting Sulcorebutia pups
Assuming you are quite happy that any wounds they might have are well calloused over I would put them in a nice open compost mixture and keep it moist, not wet. I generally find they will take a few weeks to root down. The larger one might be quicker as it has already started to look to produce root...

Re: New fora? Forums?
Is it just me or has there been a very muted response to the new forums? Personally, neither are of any real interest to me, since I don't grow small opuntias and just the odd gasteria/haworthia, but we will have to wait and see if there is going to be a demand for them. I was quite happy with the s...

Denmoza Rhodacantha
I have 2 seed grown D. Rhodacantha. They are now about 6-7 inches in diameter and are growing well.
So far neither of them have shown any inclination to produce flowers.
Anybody have any suggestions what I should do to promote flowering?

Re: Scarring on cactus
If you were in England i would say it was red spider bite damage. It is a very small insect that pierces the epidermis, particularly around the growing point. These incisions lead to the typical brown scarring, like on your plants. I would try some insecticide. It does grow out, but can take quite s...

Re: Humble flowers
I have never had much success with Frithia of any kind.
This might prompt me to try again. Lovely flowers!

Re: Echeveria spraypaintianus
I should have thought if they wanted to make Echeverias interesting they could have used much more attractive colours.
(Not a serious post, before anybody reacts!)
I find ALL of these painted and mutilated plants to be complete abominations.

Re: Identification please?
Nice to see U was right about the flowering! It is really showing its paces.
It is not Tarvitaensis. That has large, orange-red flowers.
I'm no Rebutia expert, but I would suggest either Atrovirens or Steinmannii, but don't quote me on that!
