Re: Aloe 'Hey Babe'

I think "Lizard Lips" was distributed most widely of all his hybrids in the hybridising program he undertook.

Re: Terry Smale

It truly was a shock to hear of Terry's passing when I joined the BCSS Zoom meeting on Tuesday night. Although I have known of Terry by reputation and his writings for many years, it wasn't until I began attending the MSG Banstead event from 2012 onwards that I conversed with him. Any comment or obs...

Re: Aloe haworthioides var aurantiaca

I listed both the Reynolds books on ebay about five years ago, realising that they were very dated and I rarely made any use of them. Despite having over 2500 'followers' on ebay, the starting price was £2.50 and the Africa one sold for £5 and the Madagascar one £7.50. Maybe a bargain but I've not ...

Re: Aloe haworthioides var aurantiaca

I just had a look in The Aloes of Madagascar (Castillon) In which it states that the flowers of normal haworthiodes are white to pink while var.auranticaca are orange to red. If this is true, again it begs the question, is he talking about Tepal colour or filament colour? If it is filament colour, I...

Hi Ralph, I'd be very interested in seeing the flower on the second one, as the plant itself looks very similar to some of the hybrids I made using var. haworthioides.

Re: Aloe haworthioides var aurantiaca

Hi all, ... the fact that they differ only by the flower colour When you say flower colour are you referring to the tepals or the filaments? NB.to those unfamiliar with the species, the colourful part that can be seen in the flowers is actually the highly developed and colourful filament part of th...

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination

Has anyone tried long strand sphagnum moss as a material to put the new seedlings into? I use it for small orchids as it retains a lot of water within its structure for the plants to access but then has open channels so air can also get to the roots to prevent them rotting. Thoughts? Has anyone tri...

Aloe ellenbeckii(Acquired under the name A. dumetorum is a synonym of ellenbeckii, but I will leave Colin to comment on this as he is always pulling me up about my incorrect use of A.ellenbeckii on my plant which is, allegedly, an un-named Lavranos collection  (hopefully Colin will not poo-po...
