Re: Stapelia in Flower
Super flower, even if smelly. Once you have had this in flower, it's easy to get lured into getting more stapeliads.

And now for something completely different
Graphomya maculata, I believe. No, not a new succulent, but the species of this fly which impaled itself on one of my Aylosteras...
I'm pretty impressed with the macro shots which can be achieved by the cameras in phones these days.

Re: Tavaresia barklii
Yes, pure pumice. I did wonder about mixing it with grit to make it go further and dry quicker.
Note that I feed my plants every time I water them.

Re: What's happened to my Turbinicarpus jauernigii?
I've had a couple of Gymnocalyciums do it this year too. I've tried taking them off and rooting them down as offsets, but they don't seem to take. I suspect it may be due to a sudden change in conditions as the buds are forming.

There are also differences in spine colour and length, as well as body colour. It's a plant wi9th many different forms.
I find it responds well to plenty of water and food.

Indeed! You have done well to keep it so long, and still looking typical too.

Re: Tavaresia barklii
You might think so Tine, but a couple of years ago, I grew one from seed. After 18 months it was a lovely 6 stemmed plant. After 2 years it was no more...
All of my stapeliads are going into pumice at the moment, to try to help me not to overwater them.

Re: Aloes in flower
Mike
you'll get some berries after those flowers, and when ripe, the seeds are in a really sticky gloop, almost like glue. I suspect it's a bit like British mistletoe - when birds eat the berries, seeds and gllop stick to their beaks and carried off, to propagate the plant elsewhere.
