Removing old flowers

Old dried out shrivelled flowers are not the most esthetically pleasing things especially on cacti that have quite a few flowers like rebutias or mamalarias. My question is, when and how do you remove those dead flowers, or maybe you just leave them on the plant and hope that they fall off by themse...
