I wondered what had happened. It went down well before 22.00 though.

I knew I shouldn't have...

...sown mixed cactus seed in 2012. I now have upwards of 60 seedlings that I can't identify. Three are cereus type and I'm hopeless at identifying cylindrical cacti; several are Ferocacti and all the rest are very long spined types that I suspect might be Carnegia gigantea as I know these are common...

Re: Anyone watered their Lithops yet?

Well I watered (almost) all my Lithops this morning. Some were ready, many were not, but the weather is right and I want them to move from winter to spring. Really have to be patient now. Many will take the chance to throw away their old leaves, but some will just fatten them up again. I'm still ho...

Re: Spring!!!

Lovely Diane. I have plenty of cacti in bud but they haven't been tempted to flower because of the cool, cloudy conditions of late. Today is much better and I am expecting my Turbinicarpus beguinii to be the first out any day now; it's been in bud since mid March, together with assorted Sten...

Re: Anyone watered their Lithops yet?

OK Rod, but up there in Knighton it is still snowing isn't it  I used to live part time in Clun so I know how cold it can be. Geoff Yes, you're right Geoff. There is a cold NW wind whipping across the valley as I type this. However the greenhouse is nice and toasty! Some of my Lithops are alm...

Re: Anyone watered their Lithops yet?

I've been growing Cono's and Lithops for only a couple of years. Last year I began watering my Lithops mid June and my Cono's at the end of June, keeping the Cono's in the shade of other plants till September. This year several of my Lithops leaves haven't begun to shrink yet so I don't think I'll w...

Re: Mammillaria plumosa - peat problem

OK I'll give it a go. I don't think I'll ever buy a plant potted in peat ever again, no matter the temptation. The key thing is - if you buy a plant in peat, re-pot it straightaway in decent compost. Provided the peat hasn't dried out, you should be ok. Even if it has dried out, a good soak in wate...

Re: Plant ID

It could be arachnoideum as not all specimens are equally "webby". I've had my specimen for donkey's years but it has never bloomed.
