Re: Seeking Mammillaria densispina

I am not a member of Mammillaria Society. Wait for the seed list of the Mammillaria freunde from Germany (http://www.mammillaria.eu/Shop). Late January they publish their list for non members. Maybe it is on it this year again. Last year they offered these: 89 o ML densispina GM 1212, Presa Los Ala...

Re: Seed pack labelling

Yikes. That is not a good thing.
I would immediately wonder if an error has been made and I would not trust the locality number or the species and subspecies in your example at all.
If you can't confirm what you get is right, I would assume it is probably wrong.

Re: It's going to get cold.

Yes, I was out this afternoon to lay newpaper over the collection ready for a week of colder weather. Newspaper is good because it lets some air flow through and it absorbs moisture. To be honest, I still don't really understand the newspaper thing quite a few people seem to advice. That it absorbs...

Re: Updated seed lists

Ralf Hillmann has also updated his list. Partly cacti and a large part of (European) (hardy) succulents.

You can obtain his list via email automatically, if you have contacted him before. If not, send me a message and I can forward the seed list to you.

Re: a sign perhaps we're going to get an early Spring?

Don't be fooled by these 'signs'. Usually the real winter does not start until in the 20 January, and will last for usually a month or a month and a half. At least up here. In 2004 we had a huge load of snow and frost up to locally -20C at night around 20 March, only to be replaced by the first real...

Re: Baobab seed pre treatment

Depends probably what kind of baobab we are talking. Multiple species can be called baobab, although maybe just one might be the 'real' babobab. But when I sowed Ceiba insignis (so no Adansonia) in 2010, I got probably about a 100% germination. Just sowed them as I did with about anything else, so n...

Re: Winter growers and their requirements

I treat my Conophytums as Autumn and spring growers, keeping them dry in december, January and early february. My Tylecodens are treated similar except if we get a few days of bright weather, they then get a splash of water. The Conophytums might not mind this. But if you grow African bulbs that ar...
