Re: Greenhouse heating novice

My wonderful boyfriend brought me the full kit needed to heat my greenhouse this winter. So this weekend we will be fixing up bubble wrap and plugging my new heater and thermostat in. Thanks for all of the advice it helped him to make a great choice :)

Greenhouse heating novice

Finally the green house at home is ready and I want to get some plants I it before winter but before I do I want to make sure that I can hear it over winter. It's only a tiny greenhouse 1.6m x 1.6m and is wooden from the ground to halfway up. I know a lot of people use fan heaters and I'm guessing I...

Re: Seedlings dying - please help

I have started to practice my grafting for this very same reason, especially as some of the plants I may have could be quite rare and if I can only save the tip on a graft until it gets big enough to try again on its own roots then that would be a success. Do you guys think that grafting could help ...

Re: Who gets your plants when you die?

This is a very intersting thread as at the zoo we often get requests from people who's plants have got to big or to difficult to manage. Only this week we had a request to take on a 7ft Euphobia and to be honest we have no use for it but I don't want to say sorry we can't help you as I don't see tha...

Help with ID and advice for this very large and old cactus!

This 'cactus' has been offered to the Zoo by an elderly gentleman who can no longer care for it. Apparently it is 7ft tall. At first glance I thought it was a Euphobia but I'm not to sure and wondered if anyone here could ID it for me as this will help me to decide if it could be used anywhere in th...

Re: New Turbinicarpus speices found!!!

No one, JoZoo. That's the reality of no-one valuing ex-situ conservation as highly as it should be, and the worst offenders are governments advised by professional botanists. Thanks Chris, I guessed this would be the case although I sincerely hoped it wouldn't be. I guess this is where societies li...

Re: New Turbinicarpus speices found!!!

So I guess it really comes down to if you are a lumper or a splitter then!!! :) Maybe I worry to much but I have concerns that naming it as a new species potentially makes an already at risk group of plants more vulnerable. And maybe I'm stating the obvious, especially as the article does say that i...
