Aloe polyphylla hybrids
I remember reading Clarke Brunt had tried to create an AP hybrid with Aristaloe aristata but I don’t know if the seedlings turned out to be just aristata. I have some seedlings which I’m hopeful are Aristaloe aristata x Aloe polyphylla and another which is the result of brushing AP pollen onto Kelly...

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination
It is definitely possible to over water Aloe polyphylla. I keep my small plants in my conservatory and invariably my plants take on an etiolated appearance in winter. Giving them a water at the wrong time in the depths of winter can cause them to rot. I've rescued a couple of seedlings which lost th...

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination
The seeds came from Silverhill Seeds Edds. Just a random seedling I think. Others who've had variegated seedlings had the same experience as me. I've lost quite a high number of seedlings from this batch. No idea why - maybe I watered them when they didn't need it. They lose their roots if you don't...

Re: Aloe polyphylla germination
From personal experience they seedlings transplant better if left until there is a root and a cotyledon leaf. This also helps to determine which way up the seedling should be planted. Unfortunately this seedling from 2018 hasn't made it through it's second winter.

Re: Manfredas
I'd be interested in people's experience of germination and cultivation of these. M. maculosa in particular. I consistently get just 1 to germinate and then lose the plant while still small. I currently have 1 healthy seedling! I've previously bought several species of Manfreda from Cotswold Garden ...

Interestingly a couple of plants from cuttings taken while on holiday in Cornwall have survived this winter (so far) for me.

Interesting thank you Bob. Just purchased a bag of basalt rock dust volcanic fertiliser: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00QFG3WAI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 I agree that the sterilisation mustn't be enough. Maybe it is the water content in the soil but I will try the ...
