Wow: what a fine set of plants!

In reply to Ian, lack of calcium thought came from last BCSS magazine (article about pH-adjustments, etc.): more a case of me clutching at straws in case I was missing something. BTW I don't currently pH my soil, since Macclesfield is blessed with soft Peak district water and I have not had problems...

I grew it from commercial garden centre seed of Echinocactus grusonii (single species packet), and I think it is just the Macclesfield (NW UK) lack of light which has stretched it, as suggested... My other E. grusonii is more typical: the one pictued is a rather poorer sibling!

And the rest, lest they feel left out. Fairly obviously, I have some of last year's adolescent in with the seedlings to help lead by example. Note the "commuter carriage" look in the six pots of seedlings! The tray is L. veruculosa Rose of Texas, so I might have a few red-flowered one to s...
