Re: Mammillaria plumosa - peat problem
OK I'll give it a go. I don't think I'll ever buy a plant potted in peat ever again, no matter the temptation.

Mammillaria plumosa - peat problem
I acquired a lovely 12cm M plumosa last spring from a garden centre, but since then it's shrunk in size and doesn't look very happy. So I unpotted it this morning, and it turns out the root ball, which is a decent size, is still in a mass of dry peat in which it was previously grown. Obviously I had...

Re: Mamm theresae
What constitutes rare? I don't see M. theresae on sales lists that's for sure, and when I do they're 'sold out' or grafted.

Mammillaria ID
2014-03-24 14.58.48.jpg I've been waiting for this Mamm to flower since I got it last year so I could present it here for ID. However, just as it's about to bloom I'm away on business for 2 weeks! Bad timing I know as I will miss several others flowering also. So can anyone tell me what it is from ...

Mineral based compost
What is it exactly? I've just received a cactus in the post (Escobaria hesteri to be precise) and unlike the other cacti in the package there is a note with it that specifically states it should be planted in a 'mineral based substrate'. I presume that means cat litter/grit/perlite only? Advice/expl...

Re: Seed gathering
The two in question are Mammillaria blossfeldiana and M boolii. I'm not really into growing from seed, not until next year anyway, so I'll be happy to send these fruits to someone for free if they're willing to take a chance! Is there a list anywhere that shows which species are prone to self-pollin...

Seed gathering
Some of my plants notably Mammillarias have developed fruits, and I'm not sure if they will be to type. I didn't pollinate them myself, and nor do I have doubles of the said plants, so does that mean the seeds will be hybrid? Or could they have been pollinated by other plants of the same species bef...
