Re: 3 more to ID

Here are my guesses for two of the plants:

Plant nr. 1: Melocactus deinacanthus (long reddish spines, but the lower radial spines as long as the lowermost radial spine).

Plant nr. 3: Melocactus ernestii (lowermost radial spine longer than any of the others)

Re: Melocactus id.?

My guess is Melocactus zehntneri, although the flower is protuding too much above the cephalium than the normal for this species.

Re: IDs Anyone?

I do not think the Melo is azureus - the arrangement of the spines and the shape of the seedling is more typical of plants from the M. violaceus group. I would say concinnus, glaucescens or a bluish form of zehntneri, and my bet for a correct ID goes with the later two names. Well, once it gets old ...

Re: A few other purchases.

Melocactus disciformis is not a nomen nudum - not valid. The correct name of your plant is Melocactus conoideus.

Re: The latest burnt offering from eBay

I would not mind having one - I like plants with a rough or wrinkled epidermis, and I love Ariocarpus. But I think the price for this cultivar "Godzilla" is too high - maybe in a few years, when it gets more readily available, I will get one for me. A few years back this cultivar existed o...
