Re: Some of my hybrid agaves

Edds, Looks like your parrasana x sobria has been rained on quite a bit to wash off the grey bloom. Same happened to my vizcainoensis when I drowned it in bug spray last September, not sure if it grows back again or we have to wait for new leaves. I'll try to post some more hybrid pics now I can mov...

Re: Storing pollen

To preserve pollen by freezing you need to remove sufficient moisture so that Ice crystals are unable to form. All pollen will behave differently when dried so if you were to equilibrate a selection of pollen to a particular relative humidity they would probably have different amounts of residual mo...

Re: Agave kicking off early this year

I'm still not sure what this should be called. Gentry called it Polycantha var Xalapensis. So does this move along with Polycantha >> Obscura or stay where it is? He also mentioned "perennial plants branching several times from leaf axils" which I what I sometimes get and end up with a 3 o...

Re: Wi-Fi Thermometer

Smel, If you are getting direct sun then it will not only elevate the reading but may be different between the two devices based on the reflectivity of the sensor and the surroundings. both my inside and outside sensors have a solar shield. Nothing fancy, just a 1 litre bottle sliced in half lengthw...

Re: Wi-Fi Thermometer

I took a hybrid approach and used a couple of arduinos to modernise the system a bit. I already had an analogue set up hardwired back to the house that has a display unit, power fail alarm and heater activity indicator. I used one arduino to produce a signal conditioner and to convert the signals to...

Re: Inkbird thermostat for 3kw heater ?

It would be possible to replace the relays inside to up the rating a bit but because they are pcb mounted the copper tracks on the board probably wouldn’t take it. The simplest solution would be to use a heavy duty relay in a separate box having a 240 v coil and use the ink bird to drive that. The r...
