Re: Astrophytum caput-medusae
Same as Bill - 4 out of 10. They aren't difficult to germinate, but don't expext them to come up as quickly as Astros.

Re: Digitostigma caput-medusae
You can use Echinopsis, Bill - it can be a problem with offsetting, though. If you remove all the areoles, this does stop it offsetting, Echinopsis make quite good stocks. I usually use Trichocereus, sometimes Harrisia, but haven't tried anything else.

Re: Copiapoa Flowers
... a smaller plant in a 2.75" pot. You can see a couple of heads at top left and bottom right have dried up completely.

Re: Copiapoa Flowers
I don't find C. lauii all that slow to grow, maybe it depends on the clone you have. This is a pic of one of mine in a 4.5" pot, I did have a much larger one until it went a bit downhill, so I split it up, and rooted some heads (actually, they usually already have root systems, but will root ea...

Re: How to propagate Haworthia from leaves
...this is one of the variegated limifolia crosses I grew from seed. The variegation had disappeared from the top growth, so I beheaded it, hoping for variegated pups, it has grown three pups, and one is nicely variegated! [attachment 13484 IMG_0369Small.JPG] This is the top showing a normal green p...

Re: How to propagate Haworthia from leaves
Here are a couple of my experiments with Haworthias. This is H. semiviva , I had a double headed plant that lost its roots, one head I cut in half, I also tried rooting leaves, but they proved a bit too thin to survive long enough to root. This is the half that is now producing two pups and a root.....

Re: Digitostigma caput-medusae
I've recently grafted a short tubercle from my grafted plant (split down the centre), hopefully, next year it should start producing plantlets, also have four small seedlings on the go, so I reckon in a few years' time, this will become much cheaper and more easily available. Over the years, many ne...

Re: Two day shows- your opinions ?
I think we went to this Show/convention in Manchester, Clarke. Must have been at least 20 years ago, and spent the night in a hotel. I can remember the show very well, and I seem to remember there were difficult choices to be made as to which lectures to attend, there was a Dinner/dance on the secon...
