Might as well add to the comments. I still use traditional JI3 + grit/sand, 60:40 for all my mesembs and many other succulents. For the cacti we use JI3 plus, moler clay granules, extra food in the form of hoof, blood & bone, perlite, rock dust, and perhaps some vermiculite, proportions vary. Th...

Well done and yes, the stem will grow as the flower spike ages.
Don't forget to tickle up the flowers as this plant is self-fertile like many Haemanthus (or is it all Haemanthus?

I see you are thinking of sending buds, but unless they have opened and the polle on the anthers has matured buds will be no good I think.
