Re: Pest control
I'm not sure which formulation of Bug Clear Ultra is being used-there are different active ingredients. Bug Clear Ultra contains acetamiprid, Bug Clear Ultra 2 uses rapeseed oil and pyrethrum as the active ingredients. Brilliant idea, two completely different things with the same name. I'm no exper...

Re: Growing Cacti & Succulents in 100% Pumice
I am gradually repotting my collection of Mesembs into 100% 2-4mm Pumice as my initial trial has been successful. Do any growers using pure Pumice know if Mealy Bugs are less likely to be attracted to Pumice than when potted in JI2? I've seen far far less mealy bugs in my collection since everythin...

Re: Recomendations for a good sprayer
I've gone through quite a few of these small sprayers. After going to a pesticide course I saw some much better knapsack sprayers, more pricey, but much better in terms of constant spray pressure, easier to use, sits on your back, more volume and a variety of spray nozzles, extendable lance. I settl...

Re: The Seed Pool - CLOSED
Isn't one of the differences between the forum seed poll and the BCSS seed distribution one of quantity? I have donated to both, but I recall there is, understandably, a minimum quality required for the BCSS one. And my thanks too to Chris for running the seed pool; I have had many seeds over the l...

Re: The Seed Pool - CLOSED
It is a shame if the seed pool closes. The society seed list seems to cover plants that are more interesting for the experienced growers. I found the seed pool listed more species that those new to the hobby might want to grow eg Rebutia. So the two sources of seed are complementary. I grow quite a...

Re: All my plants are dying 😭
There are small portable air conditioning units- Argos does one for £100 though I've no idea how effective it is. The others seem to be a good bit more expensive.

Something to be careful of- test your water, add your vinegar to get it to the right pH, then leave it sitting a few hours. Test it again and it may have gone back up, due to the buffering. The pH reduction caused by vinegar can be neutralised gradually by carbonates in the water. To get a stable p...
