But then you will also see your plants less often. One thing to watch out for. if the plants are behind a curtain which gets drawn, it may g...

Re: Babiana - or not?

... Petroselinum crispum subsp. tuberosum ... tuberous-rooted or Hamburg parsley, eaten like parsnips That's a new one on me. I thought at first you were talking about Apium graveolens var. rapaceum, or celeriac, delicious eaten grated as a raw salad. And it would make a more plausible caudiciform,...

Re: Melocactus from Dobbies

Colin, as for selling Melocacti being unethical - you've reminded me of a house I used to drive past on my way to work (in Cardiff), perhaps 6 or 7 years ago. A new owner decided to tart up the garden, and I could hardly believe my eyes when amongst Yuccas and the like, a 3-4 m tall succulent Euphor...

Re: 2 and 3 YO Lithops size Solved

If I raise cactus seedlings, I certainly do not achieve anything near the size that the Dutch can achieve in about 18 months. Seed raising is most efficiently done in a dedicated facility rather than in a greenhouse mixed with mature plants. That might be true for lithops - but I find my cactus see...

I used to do that, without obvious problems, until Terry told us they were obligate winter growers. They had a short rest this autumn, and are now being watered again...
